<BlindTaleTeller> Drax was, again.. in the library. And once again, he'd collected a few small stacks of books. This time though he'd brought in a bit of seating that was more friendly to his lower half, a large, bottom weighted basket chair containing as much pillow as it was him: and at his size.. that was saying quite a lot. One stack of books stacked neatly to one side with the top tome open and marked with a simple green ribbon, the other was similarly stacked half wound in his coils: while yet another book was in his right hand closest to the one metallic green eye that worked and wasn't covered by an eye patch. He had a drink, and a snack of vegetables nearby.. which he picked at occasionally looking up from his studies. The majority of the subject: theory and fact in the study of blood sorcery, plant manipulation, and what he could find in the general realm of necromancy. In short: the naga was just about in heaven, surrounded by books.
<TheBloodWingedAngel> It was about every topic that fell under Abasel's expertize. Alteration of reality, that was what he did and what he taught, and at the moment he was making a perfectly good demonstration of it, while looking through a book on reanimation and necromantic alchemy. An old passion of his. But he didn't need any chair. One of his favoured skills were wall-walking, or in this case, sitting. He was leaning against the wall of the library right above a bookshelf. The students were quite used to it by now.
<BlindTaleTeller> Drax had noted the other perched where he was.. he was only a few meters to his right after all; he still gave him a few curious looks, though he'd seen the ability before on deck; in use generally by land walkers to scale the masts for one reason or another. It had been particularly useful after heavy storms, when the rigging was wrecked or just plain blown loose. Just the same, he hadn't delved too much into it; he'd been too busy either cooking, teaching some of the less skilled or knowledgeable of the crew, or tending to Hector's needs one way or another: not to mention trying to increase his own knowledge through what books the older naga had acquired -- and ironically not known how to read until Drax had slowly taught him how. reaching into his bag for another of the wrapped vegetables, his eye went that way again: another curious and almost studious expression between the vampire and his book.. an odd off thought wondering if he'd read that one yet: and pausing in bringing it to his lips. Finally, he gave in and directed his attention -- if briefly -- entirely to the other, lowering his tome in the laid back, simple question: " Is that a favored subject of yours? "
<TheBloodWingedAngel> As Abasel hadn't noticed the other at all, too enveloped in his reading, he was just a bit startled as the silence of the library was broken. It didn't show however. He looked down, and caught sight of the naga. Well, that was something he rarely ever saw. Nagas in general, but nagas at the school? He briefly recalled the mentioning of a naga, but this was the first time he had seen him. A smile graced his lips. "Most favoured, definitely. However illegal it is to raise the dead, I can't help being curious about it. Theoretically of course." Never mind he in his ignorant childhood years had experimented with it and caused someone very dear to him their death. Oh well. You didn't live for a thousand years without learning to cope with it. Like how elves didn't die of age but of heartache, it could consume vampires as well. "You seem quite well established in the library here yourself."
<BlindTaleTeller> " Ah. I know the fascination.. it is a curious brand of magic, though costly, from what I've read and heard. Maybe that's part of why it's all the more curious to me. On one hand, bringing back the dead does have it's appeal.. especially looking at whatever personal reasons one might have to go after it; but.. in the same stroke, there's a wonder as to whether it's worth it with the high stake risks involved in the majority of the theories and what cataloged instances there are. My grandfather used to tell stories about practitioners in elder days, passed from his grandfather.. these days, they're little more than ghost stories; but they caught my imagination. It's definitely one of my favored subjects... though, most magic and especially theory is. " Yes, he could talk, and go on sometimes, given the right subjects. His shoulders turned a bit, to better face the other, smiling at the last mention and lowering the book in his hand a bit more. " I wouldn't say.. established, yet. " A soft chuckle, he shook his head a bit. " I'm fairly new here; and my intended room mate; whom is the only person I know here at the Academy even mildly besides the Arch Magus hasn't been around lately. " a very slight sigh looking down to his book intending to say something else.. before he caught himself. Wait a minute.. he'd met this one before. Turning his head by half back to look at his face, he chuckled and shook his head at himself. " ...I must be slow today. We've already met. " And with that he set his book down in his lap, still open. " You were with Davion, at the restaurant off the piers.. you ate with Marius, myself and Dust. " and he shook his head again; offering his name again. " Drax Gamble? "
<TheBloodWingedAngel> Abasel furrowed his brows, trying to recall. Yes. That was perhaps before Drax had entered the university? He couldn't recall. It was a long while ago either way, and wasn't exactly pleasant to think about, considering Davi had been there. He hadn't seen the angel for so long, it was painful to think about. "Yes. Now that you mention it," he murmured. He pushed himself out from the wall, and landed on his feet with a soft thud against the floor, book in one hand. He closed it, and straightened back up. "But not here in the university. I take it you remember my name then; Abasel. It's been long since last. When you're as old as me, you'll see how difficult it is to remember names." He laughed softly. "And especially with so many students to remember as well. What are you studying here at the University? I can definitely not recall having seen you in any of my classes."
<BlindTaleTeller> Drax nodded easily; he had remembered his name, barely. It had been a good long while. " It's good to see you again, and.. I understand. My grandfatehr used to say the same thing and, as I get older and the crew alon had kept changing.. I've found that to be true for myself as well. " A brief and almost chuckling look around at the books he'd collected, he seemed even a little more at ease now that he'd recognized a familiar face. " Well, I haven't been here very long really: and, initially, I'd intended to simply attend as a student. But.. Dalamar actually offered for me to teach: so.. " a slight chuckle and expression of the remaining disbelief that was still there for that fact, and he rubbed at the back of his head briefly. " He's having me teach sign-casting in particular. And apparently, I'm better with my element than I thought. What teachings I had were mostly practical, learned from the books I have.. or, well passed down through teh generations in my family.. whom I haven't seen in decades so, his estimation is still settling a bit in my mind. "
<TheBloodWingedAngel> "Perhaps you'll feel more at ease about it once you know the school and those who attend a bit better," Abasel replied. "I learned all my magic for practical reasons, read the books out of interest. I've collected my whole life and have my whole house full of more books than there are here at the school library." He smirked a bit wryly. "Teaching is a scary thought. At least in the beginning, but if you like to teach, you'll soon be appreciating it," he said. "The Arch Mage knows his business I think. I haven't worked here for all too long myself, not considering my age."
<BlindTaleTeller> A slight sigh to his nod, he thought he might have some idea what the vampire meant when it came to getting away from his past. " My own, nearly kept me from coming here, honestly. My father, and his family.. I don't get along with them very well. Initially, he'd intended to send me ashore to attend. " Well, that was an understatement, and a very large one really. Not only had he not gotten along with his father Devon? They'd been so aggressive and gotten along so badly as he grew, Drax had ended up running from him with his mother's help, to live with his grandfather, her father. Ultimately, even that had gone wrong though; and he drew in a breath through his nose to dismiss the thoughts for the time being. " I myself am hoping to hone a few of my lesser abilities.. plants in specific. In the meantime though, I may need to find another place to live. " looking to the satchel with hsi snacks and a few of his personal things in it, he thought to ask: " Have you seen Davion at all? "
